NFL, Players To Resume Talks... Minus Some Key Figures
(4/19 7:47 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing story. ... NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith won't be attending Tuesday's labor discussions in Minnesota due to a family medical emergency, according to NFLPA spokesman George Attallah. Reported by The National Football Post

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
A federal court judge has ordered that the players and owners return to mediation, which resumes Tuesday following a break over the weekend. In addition to Smith, Albert Breer of NFL Network reports that NFLPA outside counsel Jeffrey Kessler won’t be there, either. Meanwhile, as Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio notes, none of the more prominent named plaintiffs in the players' suit against the league -- Tom Brady, Drew Brees or Peyton Manning -- will be on hand. In fact, Florio went on to suggest that until all the named plaintiffs -- and all the NFL owners -- are present, there’s no reason to take these talks seriously. While we're all hoping for a quick resolution (with mediated talks looking like the fastest track available), there's mounting evidence that both sides would prefer to take their chances in court. ... Stay tuned.
