Marcedes Lewis Wants A New Deal... Before Training Camp
(4/14 12:9 PT)

The Facts:
While teammates plan to begin taking part in self-organized workouts next Thursday, one Jaguar who won't be taking part is Lewis, who the Jaguars have franchised and who is still hoping for an agreement on a long-term deal. Lewis told Times-Union staffer Tania Ganguli via text message that he would not be back in Jacksonville next week. "I'll be training in LA til my deal is done," Lewis added. Asked if that meant he'd skip training camp if he didn't have a long-term deal by then, "It's not in me to do that..guess time will tell," he replied. Reported by the Florida Times-Union

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
There's a ways to go before it gets to that, of course. For starters, in the midst of a lockout, those negotiations are on pause. ... Ganguli went on to remind readers that when Lewis signed his franchise tag before the previous CBA expired, it assured a one-year contract worth just under $7.3 million, the average of the five highest paid tight ends in the NFL. This all comes after the best season of Lewis's career. He caught 10 touchdown passes, tying a franchise record of touchdown catches in a single season, and setting the record for tight ends. His 17 career touchdown catches are also a franchise record.
