Basanez was cut loose two days before the start of the team’s mandatory three-day, five-practice mini-camp. Basanez figured to be an odd man out after the team drafted Dan LeFevour in the sixth round out of Central Michigan last month.

That leaves the team with three quarterbacks on the roster for new OC Mike Martz --Jay Cutler, Caleb Hanie and LeFevour. Per the NFP, the team has internally discussed the possibility of adding a veteran to the mix, but that isn’t a given and if it happens it will likely speak to the team’s comfort level with Hanie, who served as the No. 2 last year. Marc Bulger, who played under Martz in St. Louis, has been mentioned as a possibility.
