Following up on the ongoing story. ... The MRI performed on Fitzgerald's knee came back negative and showed only a bone bruise, a team source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Fitzgerald is walking without a limp and could play Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Ken Whisenhunt said on Tuesday that the MRI was a precaution and that he was encouraged that Fitzgerald was able to go back in the game after he was injured in Monday night's loss at San Francisco. ... Fitzgerald said on Twitter on Monday night that he was "sore but OK." Asked again on Tuesday, he answered he was "sore but straight. ..." We'll obviously continue to follow up through the weekend, but at this point all signs are good.
