It's Official: 49ers, Alex Smith Agree To New Deal
(3/10 9:54 PT)

The Facts:
The 49ers have agreed to a new two-year deal with Smith, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft. Though specific numbers are not yet available, we’re told that it’s normal two-year money for a backup-type deal, but all in all a fair package. Our guess is that Smith will make something like $2 million to $3 million per year. Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The 49ers have confirmed the new deal is in place. ... As noted in a recent Fantasy Notebook, Smith is expected to compete with Shaun Hill for the team's starting spot this summer. And despite the team's recent interest in Kurt Warner, the impression is the team is said to feel comfortable with a competition between Hill and Smith. In fact, some observers view Smith as more than just a wildcard in this equation with some suggesting he might be the early favorite.
