We’re not sure of the root of this rumor, but bloggers in new England are suggesting that the Bucs are in the process of working a trade for Cassel that would involve the Bucs giving up their first-round draft pick in this year’s draft and some loose change to secure the Cassel’s services.

Even the Tribune reporters passing this one along are skeptical, so we'll use their words to maintain perspective. "Keep in mind, we’re just doing our jobs here," Trib beat writers Anwar Richardson and Roy Cummings warned before adding: "This one seems like a little bit of a stretch, but there’s no question that Cassel would provide the Bucs with the kind of player who could push Luke McCown for the starter’s job." No kidding. ... While there's little doubt the Bucs are interested in a more experienced player to push McCown, but Cassel seems like more that a "little bit" of a strectch. File this one under "interesting but unlikely."
