Following up on a previous item. ... The Raiders have called a press conference at noon Wednesday. At that time, Tom Cable will be announced as the head coach.

No real surprise as the reports of Cable’s hiring that first began to circulate last week began to ramp up throughout the day. The NFL Network and ESPN are all reporting the same thing: Cable is the guy. Other candidates for the job were Packers assistant head coach/linebackers Winston Moss and Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride. Raiders owner Al Davis is expected to explain the process at tomorrow's press conference. Assuming Davis breaks out his infamous overhead projector, his explanation alone will be worth the price of admission. We will, of course, have more on the hiring when it's officially announced.
