The Facts:
Although nothing close to a breakthrough has occurred, Post-Dispatch staffer Jim Thomas has learned that there have been low-key talks in the last day or two between Rams president of football operations-general manager Jay Zygmunt and Steven Jackson's agent, Eugene Parker. That's the first indication of any dialogue between the parties since the first day of training camp -- July 25.

According to Thomas, the Rams' last known offer was seven years for about $50 million, with about one-third of the $50 million believed to be in guaranteed money. As of Tuesday afternoon, Jackson's contract holdout had reached 19 days. Jackson has now missed 22 practices, as well as the exhibition opener against Tennessee. Jackson's fines now total $287,204. While HC Scott Linehan sounds optimistic about getting Jackson ready for the opener, time is fast becoming an issue. ... Stay tuned.
