HC John Fox wouldn't say how serious Hackett's foot injury is, except that it was a "setback" and that Hackett was "day-to-day."

Hackett hasn't been with the team on the field the past three days as the Panthers prepared for tonight's exhibition opener against Indianapolis. "He was having a real good camp," Fox said of Hackett, signed as a free agent during the offseason after four seasons with Seattle. "But this is something we can work through. ..." Hackett is expected to challenge for a starting spot opposite Steve Smith -- but he'll have to be healthy to do so.
