The Facts:
Battle was not at the 49ers' opening day of organized team activities today, and HC Mike Nolan did not know his whereabouts. Battle was the only player who did not alert Nolan of his impending absence.

Battle, a starter the past two seasons, might be pushed out of the starting lineup after the team acquired Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson as free agents. Nolan said Battle was working at the "Z," behind Isaac Bruce. Battle is considered the team's third wideout. Battle has not taken part in the team's off-season conditioning program, as he decided to work out in Dallas, Nolan said. Battle attended the team's mandatory OTAs.
