The Facts:
Club officials have had very preliminary discussions with Warner about a contract extension, said Mark Bartelstein, Warner's agent. Cardinals GM Rod Graves confirmed the news but cautioned that the discussions are very preliminary.

Warner is entering the final season of a three-year, $15 million deal, and the combination of his $4 million salary and the proration of his $3 million signing bonus make his cap number $5 million. As Profootballtalk.com's Michael David Smith notes, that's a lot of money to have tied up in a QB who, according to HC Ken Whisenhunt, will enter 2008 as the backup to Matt Leinart. It's safe to say their inability to restructure Larry Fitzgerald's deal makes the notion of reworking Warner's more appealing to team officials.
