Gates had surgery this week on his dislocated left big toe and is expected to have a rehab of four to six months.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers are fine with that recovery time. Gates will be limited in training camp and the preseason. In 2005, he missed all of the preseason and first game of the regular season following a holdout and went on to his only 1,000-yard season and was the league's only unanimous All-Pro.
