LeSean McCoy States His Case As NFL's Best RB
(5/21 12:47 PT)

The Facts:
McCoy, who just finished his fifth season in the NFL, was on ESPN's First Take Monday morning and made it quite clear who he thinks is the best in the league at his position. "Yes, sir," McCoy said when asked if he was the NFL's top rusher. Reported by Philly.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
While acknowledging the fact the Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is widely considered to be the league's best back, McCoy contends AP's status isn't based on recent history. "The last three years? I've been All-Pro, first-team, twice," McCoy said. "I never leave the field. I block. I catch. I never leave the field. I don't have anybody do my job; I do it myself. Tons of credit goes out to Adrian Peterson. I'm a big fan of his, for sure. But I feel I'm the best. ..." As PhillyMag.com suggests, McCoy has a pretty strong case. In 2013, his first season under Chip Kelly, McCoy had a career-high and NFL-leading 1,607 rushing yards and nine touchdowns to go with 539 receiving yards and two more touchdowns. Over the last five years, McCoy is fifth in the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 7,600 yards. Only Ray Rice (8,487), Chris Johnson (8,480), Adrian Peterson (8,318), and Matt Forte (7,870) have more. While McCoy isn't at the top of that list, when you look at just running backs that are 26 and younger, McCoy is second is rushing yards over the last five season to only Rice. Furthermore, McCoy is third among running backs with 4.76 yards per attempt (minimum 750 carries) and is one of only four running backs to average 50 receptions per season. And he's more than two years younger than any of the other players in the top five. Whatever the case, it's safe to say fantasy football owners will have McCoy near the top of their RB rankings this year.
