No Timetable For Ryan Broyles To Be At Full Speed
(4/28 1:26 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... Broyles finished his career with an NCAA record 349 receptions, and if not for a torn ACL -- he had surgery Nov. 21 and still isn't 100 percent -- might have gone much higher than 54th overall, where the Lions landed what they consider a draft-day steal (and fans consider a head-scratching luxury) in Friday's second round. "If the guy were healthy now, he'd have been gone way before our pick," general manager Martin Mayhew said. "We're just fortunate to have this guy on our team. Think he's a great talent." Reported by the Detroit Free Press

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
With Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson and last year's second-round pick Titus Young already on the roster, the Lions have the luxury of being able to bring Broyles along slowly in his rehab. He ran a 4.57-second 40-yard dash in mid-April, about five months after his injury, and said he's "back to doing everything normal" in workouts. "I can't give you a timetable," Broyles said. "I'm doing all the weight-room stuff, all the running stuff, I'm getting my flexibility as well. So I'm on pace to just look good. I feel better than ever right now, to be honest. ..." At 5-10 and 192 pounds, Broyles projects as a slot receiver, though HC Jim Schwartz said he has the ability to line up inside or outside and can help as a punt returner. The Lions have yet to re-sign either of their veteran backups in free agency, Rashied Davis and Maurice Stovall, and have been looking for help in the return game.
