Again, the news comes as no surprise. Welker drew the Patriots franchise tag as an unrestricted free agent. While he'd like a longer-term contract, Welker has made it clear he'd be willing to play for the $9.4 million franchise tender this fall. That obviously doesn't mean he's ready to show up for voluntary work -- or perhaps even for full-scale OTAs when they begin next month. In case you missed it, recent reports have indicated there's been little progress on the long-term contract.
