Falcons Tap Mike Nolan To Be Defensive Coordinator
(1/17 6:28 PT)

The Facts:
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that the Atlanta Falcons have hired Mike Nolan as their new defensive coordinator. Glazer calls the move a "solid, solid hire". Reported by the Redzone.org

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Nolan has overseen a shutdown run defense the past two years in Miami, and should be an upgrade on Brian VanGorder. Mike Smith, who coached with Nolan in Baltimore a decade ago, is reportedly amenable to incorporating 3-4 elements into his defensive scheme. Nolan has always run a 3-4 front. This leads to more speculation about the future of former Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo, who also was interviewed for the Atlanta DC job. Spagnuolo also interviewed with the Colts on Monday but that situation is now in total flux with the announced firing of head coach Jim Caldwell this afternoon.
