Johnson's premeditated celebration happened in spite of the team having been warned by head coach Chan Gailey against that action.

Gailey had warned the team that the next end-zone celebration that drew a flag would result in that player being benched for the rest of the game. Johnson's exposed his undershirt that read "Happy New Year" on it to draw an unsportsmanlike penalty which got him benched the rest of the day. How this affects his contract talks with the team remains to be seen.
