The Facts:
HC Jim Harbaugh not only anticipates Smith re-signing with the 49ers, he expects Smith to be in the starting lineup when the 49ers next take the field. "Well, Alex is going to definitely have the head start," Harbaugh said Saturday. "So if I'm a betting man, I'm betting on Alex Smith."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
When the season ended, Smith appeared eager to leave the 49ers after six disappointing seasons seasons. But things have changed dramatically since then. Harbaugh feels so confident that Smith will return to the 49ers to sign a one-year contract that he handed him a playbook after a meeting Friday that lasted 30 to 40 minutes on the one day the NFL lockout was temporarily lifted. As CSN's Matt Maoicco notes, ordinarily, teams do not allow players to leave with playbooks -- especially not an unsigned player. But Smith has been taking part in workouts with several of his teammates, including receiver Josh Morgan. Harbaugh said he allowed playbooks to leave the 49ers' team offices on Friday because of the unique labor situation. WRs Michael Crabtree and Morgan have their playbooks, too.
