Shockey's Release Does Indeed Confirm Jimmy Graham On The Rise
(2/23 1:11 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... The Saints' release of Jeremy Shockey says more about what the club thinks of Graham than it does about Shockey. According to Time-Picayune staffer Jeff Duncan, "This isn't an indictment of the veteran tight end. It's the confirmation of a young star." Reported by the New Orleans Times-Picayune

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
No surprise here. ... Graham emerged as a bona fide playmaker in the second half of the season and effectively replaced Shockey in many red-zone and nickel packages down the stretch. ... Graham's production and playing time soared in the second half of the season after he adjusted to the pro game and became comfortable with the Saints' complex playbook. In the first eight games, Graham played only 39 snaps and caught just five passes for 49 yards. In the final eight games, he caught 26 passes for 307 yards and five touchdowns. ... For what it's worth, Duncan notes the Saints still believe Shockey can play a role for them and have not closed the door on a possible return should he fail to land a job elsewhere. But if he does come back, it will be as a backup. Graham is the Saints' man of the present and future at tight end.
