The NFL and the NFL Players Association have managed to negotiate for five days without interruption, media leaks or any walkouts. According to the Associated Press, collective bargaining agreement discussions have now totaled 35 hours. Both sides met Tuesday for eight hours.

They're scheduled to keep talking in front of federal mediator George S. Cohen through Thursday. Per the report, the union has canceled a meeting with a selected group of agents for Thursday in Indianapolis. Their regularly scheduled meeting with all agents is set for Friday at the NFL scouting combine. ... So what to make of the ongoing talks? As NFP staffer Aaron Wilson notes, the fact that the union and the NFL continue to meet is a positive development. Whether it will lead to a new collective bargaining agreement and head off a lockout remains to be seen.
