According to a joint NFL-NFLPA statement released a short time ago, NFLPA head DeMaurice Smith and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell met today in New York to discuss a range of issues related to a new CBA. As part of a process to intensify negotiations, they agreed to hold a formal bargaining session with both negotiating teams Saturday in Dallas.

They also agreed to a series of meetings over the next few weeks, both formal bargaining sessions and smaller group meetings in an effort to reach a new agreement by early March. The sides are attempting to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement before the current deal expires at the end of the day on March 3. Saturday's session would mark the first full negotiating session between the league and the union in almost two months. Although neither side believes an agreement is close, the talks would be aimed at jump-starting the process. ... Stay tuned.
