Favre has insisted for months that the 2010 season was his last, and he’s following up on that in 2011. Alex Marvez of FOXSports is reporting that Favre has officially filed his retirement papers.

As PFT's Michael David Smith notes, it's a step toward actually retiring from football and not just saying he’s retiring. Smith went on to advise readers that officially filing retirement papers doesn’t mean he’s actually officially retired — any more than it meant he was officially retired when a New York Daily News headline read “Favre Files His Retirement Papers with NFL" on Feb. 11, 2009. But as Smith summed up, "From all indications Favre really, truly means it when he says he’s now officially retired."
