Asked about Mathews' injured ankle during his Monday press conference, HC Norv Turner replied, "He’s sore. He wanted to go back in the game in the second half. I didn’t think it was appropriate because I didn’t want it to turn into a longer injury. Our next report will be Wednesday and we’ll update you there."

Turner suggested after Sunday's game that he was concerned about turning a one-week injury into a six-week injury. And with Mike Tolbert running well, there was no need to take any chances.
