With uncertainty surrounding Vincent Jackson, who (as previously noted) is threatening an extended contract holdout, the Chargers needed another receiver for insurance. As Schefter suggests, the fact they went with Josh Reed doesn't bode well for Terrell Owens, whose name has been mentioned in connection with the Chargers ever since Jackson's contract issue heated up earlier this week.
