The San Francisco 49ers are cutting ties with their general manager, Scot McCloughan, over what has been described as a "personal matter" not related to team issues. Reached Thursday morning, McCloughan told FanHouse via text message, "I'm fine and moving forward." He would not elaborate further.

McCloughan leaves at a time when the 49ers hold the 13th and 17th overall selections in next month's NFL draft. However, HC Mike Singletary -- who has final say in all roster decisions -- has been more actively involved in the scouting, background checks and evaluation of 49ers' free agents and draft prospects. ... Meanwhile, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora is reporting that director of player personnel Trent Baalke is expected to assume many of McCloughan's duties.
