San Diego announced that Bennett has been released. The team's statement included GM A.J. Smith making a specific point to say that the Chargers will be deep at running back despite the departures of Bennett and LaDainian Tomlinson.

Worth noting: Smith also said in the statement that he expects to have restricted free agents Vincent Jackson, Malcom Floyd, Shawne Merriman and Darren Sproles back after tendering them at the highest level. "Our intentions are to have all of our tendered players back," Smith said. "We feel good about these players and continuity is important to us."
