New HC Pete Carroll gave a definite vote of confidence to Hasselbeck, who will turn 35 in September and struggled through one of the toughest stretches of his career to close the 2009 season.

“The NFL is a quarterback-driven process," Carroll told reporters during his introductory press conference. "So the fact that we have Matt Hasselbeck here is a big factor to me. ... We’ve got to get his support group and his play to the level that gives us a chance to play great football. ..." Good point. The offensive line failed to consistently protect 34-year-old Hasselbeck, which led to him throwing a career-high 17 interceptions while Seattle finished the season with four straight losses for the first time since the 1992 season.
