The Facts:
The open QB competition between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn officially has begun, Browns coach Eric Mangini said at the NFL owners meetings this morning. While the prospect of trading one still exists, Mangini said he met with both QBs prior to coming here and explained they will have an open competition for the starting job in 2009.

"I talked to both of them about that and was very clear," Mangini said.
Mangini said after reviewing tapes of both players, holding conversations with them and talking to others, he is "excited" about the prospect of having both compete for the job. Mangini said he will determine later how to divide QB repetitions in offseason practices, the mini-camps and then in training camp. The coach said there is no timetable in determining his starter nor would he rule out trading to upgrade the position -- a stance made more interesting by Jay Cutler's ongoing issues in Denver.
