Regarding his release by the Cowboys, Owens posted this brief statement on his official Web site on Thursday afternoon: “I want to thank Jerry Jones, Coach Phillips and the Dallas Cowboys for the opportunity to be a member of the team for the past three years. A big thanks to the fans -- you’ve been awesome! I look forward to the upcoming season and continuing to play in the NFL."

All indications are the parting was amicable. According to ESPN's Ed Werder, Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones informed the star wideout of his release with agent Drew Rosenhaus present, too. Werder added that all involved shook hands upon parting. ... Jones told NFL Network reporter Scott Hanson earlier today that the sometimes disruptive behavior and outspoken nature of Owens was not a factor in the release — it was a “strategic decision.”
