Cowboys Tender WRs Austin, Hurd
(2/26 9:55 PT)

The Facts:
NFL free agency begins tonight, but the Cowboys made it difficult for two restricted free agents to leave by placing the second-round tender on them Wednesday. WRs Miles Austin and Sam Hurd will earn $1.545 million this season. The Cowboys did not extend an offer to TE Tony Curtis, which makes him free to sign with another team. Reported by the Dallas Morning News

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
A team would have to surrender a second-round draft pick as compensation if the Cowboys chose not to match an offer either Austin or Hurd might receive. Austin, a 215-pounder with good speed, averaged 23.2 yards and scored three touchdowns on his 13 catches. If he can stay healthy and continue developing, some observers believe he could eventually emerge as a starter opposite Roy Williams -- on a post-Terrell Owens roster. The Morning News recently suggested Austin's big-play ability could be especially important if T.O. isn't around.
