The Arizona Cardinals have promoted linebackers coach Bill Davis to defensive coordinator, KTAR-Radio in Phoenix reported. Reported by ESPN.com

According to the ESPN affiliate's report, the possibility that Davis would be a candidate for other openings such as the defensive coordinator job with the Kansas City Chiefs factored heavily into the decision for HC Ken Whisenhunt. Davis was the San Francisco 49ers' DC for two seasons before joining the Cardinals when Whisenhunt was hired two years ago. Davis replaces Clancy Pendergrast, who was fired shortly after the team's Super Bowl XLIII loss to Pittsburgh.
