Antonio Gates Takes Part In First Full-Team Drills
(8/23 12:26 PT)

The Facts:
Gates was scheduled to go through just individual drills Thursday in his second full day of practice with the Chargers. But the more the TE ran, the better he felt. So when the individual drills ended, Gates decided to push it and participate in the full workout -- taking his first snaps in team drills. "I was rusty; I hadn't had any contact since last January," said Gates, who had toe surgery in late February. "But I was excited to be out there. I had been anxious to get back out there, so it felt good. ..." Reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The next hurdle for Gates is to see how his foot responds to the increased activity. "Hopefully, I'll keep making progress," he said. Gates reiterated it was a mid-practice decision to test his foot in the team drills."The fact that I felt so good after individual drills, I wanted to continue on to see how my foot held up in contact drills," he said. "I'm happy." There's certainly no doubt Gates is making significant progress. And if he's happy, we're happy.
