Chargers To Be Shorthanded In First Mini-Camp
(5/2 9:59 PT)

The Facts:
The Chargers will be short-handed during their first mini-camp after an offseason in which a dozen players had surgery. HC Norv Turner estimated that about eight to 10 players won't participate in a three-day mini-camp that begins today because of injuries. Key players who won't practice at all include TE Antonio Gates (toe). QB Philip Rivers (knee) is only available to do some throwing. Turner said RB LaDainian Tomlinson, who injured a knee in mid-January and avoided surgery, will also receive a limited workload.  Reported by the North County Times

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Rivers tore his ACL in mid-January and hopes to recover in time for the start of training camp in late July. "He'll be able to throw (passing) routes," Turner said. "He's going to be able to do some stuff in the individual periods and work on timing with the receivers. ..." Turner added that he has no need to push Tomlinson. ... As noted in a recent Fantasy Notebook, Rivers and Tomlinson should be at full speed well in advance of Week 1. Gates, who underwent toe surgery earlier this year, might not be ready to open the regular season.
