Bears Expected To Release Brian Griese
(2/26 8:52 PT)

The Facts:
It hasn't happened yet, but sources indicate it would take a major upset for the Bears not to cut Griese before he is due a $300,000 roster bonus next week.  Reported by the Chicago Tribune

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
This is the thanks Griese will get for biding his time during 2006, providing a serviceable effort in six starts in '07 and never going off publicly after losing his job to a phantom injury. According to Tribune staffer David Haugh, Griese apparently ticked off the wrong people at team headquarters, but we may never know whom or how. Griese was never expected to be a guy to get the Bears through more than four or five games at a time. He played that role well enough but it would appear the Bears aren't interested in paying top dolloar for somebody to tote a clipboard on Sundays.
