McCarthy: Aaron Rodgers Had The Best Spring Of His Career
(7/2 11:52 PT)

The Facts:
Rodgers is coming off his most frustrating season, having missed half of it with a broken collarbone. But he’s following that frustrating season with a great offseason. In fact, HC Mike McCarthy says that Rodgers has worked better this offseason than he ever has before in their nine years together in Green Bay. “I think Aaron’s had probably his best spring, if I’m going to sit back and try to rank them,” McCarthy said. “I’ll probably say the same thing next year, but I think he’s in great shape. I think Aaron’s in a great place and had a very exceptional spring.” Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As PFT's Michael David Smith notes, Rodgers has spoken several times this offseason about the importance of conditioning to keep himself healthy for a full 16-game season. Indeed, it's safe to say greatest key to the Packers' eventual success or failure in 2014 will be Rodgers' health. The same can likely be said of fantasy football teams with Rodgers as their QB. Remember. Rodgers has been unavailable for stretches during four of his nine seasons. Rodgers missed six games in 2006 with a foot injury, four games in 2007 (hamstring), 1½ games in 2010 (concussion) and nearly eight full games a year ago (collarbone). Rodgers dropped 11 pounds this off-season, which would put his playing weight for the 2014 campaign at approximately 215 pounds. He also began doing yoga to improve his flexibility. Whether or not that improves his odds of avoiding injury remains to be seen. But McCarthy is clearly impressed.
