Tony Romo Gives Up Golf
(7/2 1:22 PT)

The Facts:
Critics who believe Romo allows golf to distract from his preparation for the season no longer have to worry. You won’t see the Cowboys quarterback on the course in the three weeks leading up to the start of training camp. In fact, Romo hasn’t played since he had the first of two back operations in April 2013. “It’s been awhile,” Romo said. “Almost a year and a half.’’ Reported by the Dallas Morning News

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Golf has never been the distraction for Romo that some have portrayed it to be through the years. Romo has been active in the offseason but never to the point where it conflicted with organized team activities or minicamp. He concedes he used to “play a bunch for two months” but not a lot the rest of the year. Now, no one can charge that Romo spends too much time on the links. Golf is not on the list of activities as he prepares to report to camp July 22. Romo had a cyst removed from his upper back in April of last year and underwent a microdisecthomy to repair a herniated lumbar disk in late December. He was limited during offseason workouts but expects to be cleared to take part in all aspects of team drills during training camp. Bottom line? Golf or no golf, fantasy football owners are going to get solid value out of Romo again this season.
