GM Expects Cecil Shorts To Remain A Major Part Of Offense
(5/14 1:22 PT)

The Facts:
GM Dave Caldwell expressed confidence that Shorts will remain a major part of the Jaguars offense. Shorts, the team's fourth-round pick in 2011, is entering the final season of his original four-year, $2.6 million contract. "We've had some general discussions with his representation," Caldwell said. "Obviously, we want him here for the long haul. He's a valuable part of our organization and we'd love to at some point in time take care of Cecil." Reported by the Florida Times-Union

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
While the addition of two receivers (Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson) in the second round of week's draft filled a need, they apparently won't keep Shorts from getting a shot at earning a new deal. With a career season, Shorts could be looking at a major pay increase in 2015. There are over 50 receivers in the league making more this season than Shorts' entire rookie deal. Shorts shined his second season in 2012, catching 55 passes for 979 yards and seven touchdowns. Shorts managed 66 catches for 777 yards and three scores last season, finishing with one 100-yard game compared to four the previous season. Health has been Shorts' biggest obstacle; it's an issue that will continue to be of greater concern to fantasy football owners than the incoming rookies.
