Peyton Manning Speculation Roars On
(2/8 1:35 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing saga. ... It's expected that Manning will become a free agent -- maybe in a few days from now. Everyone I speak to in the NFL -- and I mean just about everyone -- believes if Manning becomes a free agent, the Washington Redskins will sign him. Reported by CBSSports.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
So wrote CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, who went on to remind readers that Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay should meet within the next 48 hours -- if they already haven't done so secretly. According to Freeman, Manning wanted some time to pass before meeting with Irsay so his brother, Eli Manning, could celebrate his championship in peace. Freeman added: "Manning knows the minute he and Irsay meet, it'll become public (mainly because Manning or his agent will leak their side of it). ..." Meanwhile, NFL Network analyst (and former Redskins QB) Joe Theismann believes that signing Manning would be "a horrific" idea for Washington. Meanwhile, ESPN insider John Clayton, another previously-mentioned suitor, the Cardinals are unlikely to make a play for Manning. Per Clayton, owner Bill Bidwell would not pay for two QBs in two years. The team paid Kevin Kolb big money last offseason. That said, Clayton believes Manning may be willing to take a smaller salary with the Cardinals than with any other team because of the option of a controlled climate (and a domed stadium). Otherwise, the Dolphins still seem like the team most interested in landing Manning -- and it might be the best fit if and when he leaves Indianapolis. Stay tuned.
