James Starks Hoping To Be Lead Back In 2012
(2/1 10:59 PT)

The Facts:
With the possibility of Ryan Grant leaving in free agency, Starks might finally have a chance to be 'The Man.' But can he handle it? "If that's how it happens, I'll be ready," Starks said. "But whatever happens, happens. I have no problem with what was going on this year, so I'd be fine with whatever." Reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Neither Starks nor Grant could ever get rolling the way they each did in past seasons. And Green Bay's rushing game struggled, ranking 27th overall and 26th in yards per carry. ... In HC Mike McCarthy's first five seasons, his strong preference was to ride one back. When training camp opened, Starks seemed a good bet to be the bell cow that McCarthy loves. That never happened as inconsistency and injury limited Starks to 40.5 percent of the carries. Grant had 40.9 percent. There's no doubt the Packers want more from Starks, but can they get it? Per Journal-Sentinel staffer Rob Reischel, GM Ted Thompson won't make a heavy investment in a back Grant's age, so Grant will test free agency and he is unlikely to return unless there's little interest on the open market. Meanwhile, Starks will train this off-season at IMG Madden Football Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and then hopes to return for a breakout season. To do that, however, he'll have to stay healthy -- something he's struggled with.
