Report: Chargers Interested In Bill Cowher
(12/25 1:10 PT)

The Facts:
The New York Post, citing an “in-the-know source with intimate knowledge of the San Diego sports scene” reported that former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher interviewed with “high-ranking people inside the Chargers organization who were gauging his interest” and that Cowher said he would be interested in the job if Turner is fired. Reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, who is extremely well-connected to the Chargers, talked to two Chargers sources who said unequivocally and vehemently on Saturday that the Chargers have not talked to Cowher. Team president Dean Spanos was known to have been unhappy with current coach Norv Turner, but he was encouraged by the team's recent string of victories. That opinion may have changed again after the Lions knocked the Chargers out of the playoffs on Saturday. His public stance has been that he won't make a decision on what to do with his head coach and general manager until after the Jan. 1 season finale in Oakland. Cowher has been linked to numerous jobs over the years and with ever-increasing frequency of late. He recently told Sports Illustrated, "People don't understand. I'm not coaching. I'm enjoying life more right now than I ever have.”
