The Facts:
Colts vice chairman Bill Polian was asked on his weekly Monday night radio show the chances of Manning being back with the team in 2012. "I don't know the answer to that. There are so many variables involved that it's impossible to tell at this point in time," Polian said.

Polian didn't shut the door on a return, saying, "It's our fervent hope that he is. But I couldn't unequivocally give you an answer of yea or nay." Still, it's starting to sound like Manning could well be released before his $28 million bonus comes due in early 2012. As Profootballtalk.com's Michael David Smith suggested Sunday, it's tough to see the Colts paying that kind of money to a soon-to-be 36-year-old who just missed an entire season -- and they would take an enormous salary cap hit if they traded Manning. So for Indianapolis, the next step at QB will be moving on to Andrew Luck. Assuming the Vikings and Rams don't steal the first pick overall from them.
