The Facts:
About a year ago, Jackson turned down his restricted free-agent tender of $3.28 million. This year Jackson was tendered as the team's franchise player at more than $10 million per year. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Jackson is fine with the franchise tag. “Another year in San Diego would be awesome. I’m happy to be in San Diego. I’d be happy to spend my whole career here. I’m just gonna make the best of the situation.”

Asked specifically about being slapped with the team's franchise tag, Jackson said, "I knew it was an option. ... The word, not directly from them, was that I’d probably be franchised. So I wasn’t surprised at all. ..." Of course, much depends on the ongoing labor negotiations. It ss the view of the NFLPA that the lack of a new CBA would nullify the “franchise” label. Naturally, that contention is refuted by management and likely to wind up a legal matter in the event of a lockout. Plus, the very concept of the tagged player could be eliminated altogether in a new CBA. ... Stay tuned.
