The announcement comes as no surprise with Alex Smith still working his way back from an injured shoulder. Alex Smith was able to do some light work last week, but Troy Smith's success as the starter gives the 49ers a chance to let Alex Smith fully heal before they decide whether to go back to him. We'll suggest if Troy Smith continues to play as he has the last two games, the decision won't be easy.
