According to Observer staffer Darin Gantt, that's not to say Smith is going to take any contact soon, as they want to make sure that broken left arm is ready for the regular season opener. HC John Fox said he wasn't even compelled to play Smith in the preseason, since the goal is to have him in New York on Sept. 12.
