Exactly one month to the day after his helmet was sandwiched between the helmets of two Falcons players, the Redskins have decided to place Portis on injured reserve, due to the lingering effects of a concussion. "We felt at this juncture in the season, it was best to place Clinton on injured reserve," Redskins executive Vinny Cerrato said in a team-issued release.

The released continued: "After consulting with our medical staff and other specialists, Clinton's prognosis is good and we expect him to make a full recovery and return to the Redskins. ..." As PFT's Mike Florio suggested, even though there's a growing sentiment in some circles that the Redskins should part ways with Portis, $6.43 million of his $7.195 million base salary is guaranteed for 2010. That would seem to make his departure much less likely.
