The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... The Panthers may want to re-sign Delhomme, but at this point they're not close to working out a contract extension with their starting quarterback, according to Delhomme's agent Rick Smith.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
While Smith joked Thursday that he talks “four million times a week” with GM Marty Hurney, he added that no deal is in the works right now to extend Delhomme’s contract. The Panthers clearly wouldn’t mind having the salary cap relief that would come with restructuring and extending Delhomme’s contract. Delhomme is in the final year of a five-year contract with the Panthers and set to count more than $11 million under the salary cap, $5.75 million of which is guaranteed based on prorated signing bonuses. According to Gazette staffer Steve Reed, Delhomme’s base salary is $5.325 million for 2009 and the Panthers can save some money there by redoing his contract.
