Favre officially filed his retirement papers, a Jets official confirmed. It is something Favre did not do last season, keeping hope alive that he always could change his mind.

Still, Favre realizes there are skeptics. In fact, his family and friends are already posing the same questions they have in the past. “They’ve asked if this is the real deal, and it is, believe me,” Favre said in a conference call with the media. “It’s been a wonderful career. It’s time to leave.” For what it's worth, were it not for the injured biceps tendon that affected his throwing late last season, Favre might be willing to return. But the injury cemented Favre’s decision. “I’m thankful and blessed I withstood so much for so long," Favre explained. "It was only a matter of time before something broke down. ..." Sounds good. But so did his more emotional goodbye last March.
