Mark Murphy, the Packers' new president and CEO, told a Milwaukee luncheon crowd today that he had spoken with Favre a couple of times, but did not say how those conversations went. "We all anticipate that he'll make a decision very soon," he said. "Probably this week some time. Before the end of the month."

Murphy is optimistic that Favre, who is pondering his future, will return next season. "My guess is that he will come back," Murphy said. The exec added that Favre was still playing at a high level, a statement echoed many times by HC Mike McCarthy. ESPN.com insider John Clayton, in reaction to Murphy's comments, is reporting that Favre continues to work through his decision-making process giving considerable thought to the team's chances of playing Super-Bowl caliber ball.
