Johnny Manziel Thinks He Can Start Week 1
(6/28 12:17 PT)

The Facts:
The first afternoon after Manziel was drafted, he walked into Browns headquarters, met with the media and carefully said if first-year HC Mike Pettine didn't want to start a rookie, he would do what was best for the team. Fast forward to the end of his first offseason training program and Manziel said, basically, nobody puts Baby in the corner. The rookie lightning rod was emphatic when asked if he expects to start Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "Absolutely," Manziel said. Reported by NFL.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
What is he supposed to say? Manziel continued: "I want to play. That's what anybody wants to do. Anybody that's been a starter in the past, and been playing, they want to play. To say I don't want to be the starter, that would be ridiculous. I absolutely want to start, that's my goal. Hopefully I can achieve that." It should be noted that Manziel also said "it's not the end of the world" if he doesn't beat out Brian Hoyer by then. At the end of minicamp, Pettine said Hoyer would be the starter come the beginning of training camp, but he also said Hoyer's lead was not "insurmountable. ..." Meanwhile, Manziel also told reporters he intends to continue being himself off the field, which will undoubtedly continue to draw heavy media scrutiny. Not surprisingly, some of his teammates have grown tired of answering questions about him."It's a distraction," RB Terrance West said of all the attention. "I'm just like any other rookie out here that they haven't got asked about a thousand times," Manziel said. "So more than anything, I think tired of that. They're tired of the hype -- which I am as well." Just don't expect Manziel to stop doing the things that feed the hype.
