Mornhinweg Admits Geno Smith, Vick Won't Compete Evenly
(5/30 1:16 PT)

The Facts:
When Michael Vick signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the New York Jets in March, it's hard to believe he did so with his eyes on a backup job. But it sounds increasingly like that will be his role. While recent comments from the Jets' coaching staff have suggested Vick is simply a safety net for the 2013 second-round pick, and even Vick has changed his tune, saying that it's Smith's job to lose. On Thursday, OC Marty Mornhinweg went a step further and confirmed what's been clear for weeks: there won't be a true QB competition in Gotham this summer. Reported by NFL.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
"There is competition," Mornhinweg explained. "Now, it may not quite be like the competition we had last year where everything was 50-50. We're trying to continue the progression with Geno, and then have Mike ready to go. It's just that simple, and Mike knows the exact expectations and roles that he has, and Geno knows the exact expectations. ..." Vick won his battle with Nick Foles last year before succumbing to the 2013 breakout player after he injured his hamstring during the season. Now it appears his days as a backup will continue -- barring a Smith meltdown (which fantasy football owners should consider well within the realm of possibility).
